How much time do you spend in the outdoors enjoying the fresh air and the many types of entertainment that Mother Nature has provided us? So many people spend a majority of their lives inside without considering what they are missing outside. This summer, maybe you should try your hand at fishing. I have put together a website to help those who are inexperienced casting their lines learn what they need to get started and how to succeed at catching their first fish. Fishing is one of the most relaxing sports for you to enjoy on your weekends after a hard week at work. Give it a shot and you may find that you love it as much as I do.

A Beginner's Guide To Choosing A Longboard

Danielle Baker

As a newbie, looking at a large selection of longboards can feel overwhelming. From different deck lengths to board flex, when you don't know what you're looking for, you're more likely to choose a board that doesn't truly suit your style or needs. Before shopping for a longboard, make sure you know what to look for.

Deck Length

Deck length, which is the length of the board, is generally based on the height of the rider. For shorter riders, a shorter board is generally recommended, and for taller riders, a longer board is the better choice. However, when you're first learning to ride, it's generally best to choose a mid-size board as these boards are generally easier to balance on, which is important when you're first learning.

Upgrade to a different deck length once you're more experienced. On the other hand, if you plan to keep the board for a long time, you may want to go ahead and invest in a tall or short board; just keep in mind that your learning process may be a little more challenging.

Kicktail Design

In terms of kicktails, either you have one on your longboard or you don't. As a novice, this is a feature you probably don't need. Kicktails are basically a tail-like structure that is carved on the end of the board. When you want to flip the board, make a quick turn, or do some other trick, this feature is important.

However, when you're first learning to ride, you probably aren't going to be doing any of things, making the kicktail an unnecessary feature. Additionally, having a kicktail on the board makes it a little more challenging to stabilize, or balance, the board so this can again make riding more difficult when you're first learning.

Board Flex

As its name suggests, board flex basically determines what level of flexibility the board has. What level of board flex you need is highly dependent on the area where you will primarily ride the board. If you're going to be riding on rigid terrain, such as a brick-paved area, you want a board with a higher level of board flex.

However, for a smoother surface like asphalt, a lower board flex level is sufficient. If you choose a board with lower flexibility than necessary, this can put more pressure on your knees and ankles, making for a more uncomfortable ride.

When choosing a board from a store like Flippin Board Co., make certain you're keeping your safety and skill level in mind.
